I stopped vaping marijuana completely just about a month ago & also decided to visit my doctor to get checked out. Any one else start coughing up dark mucus after they quit smoking? Is it just my lungs expelling everything… These waste products from the fighting is what makes the phlegm green. It pains me to give up a plant that has given me so much joy in life. This terrified me into stopping. com Basically, when I wake up I have some dark-yellow, or light brown-mucus, and when I work out or run or do a really good salt-water gargle I sometimes hack up clear phlegm with some brown specks in it. I've been finding light to dark grey specks in my phlegm when I cough, something that's quite recent for me. I try to hack some up preemptively when I wake up, but it also comes up randomly mid-morning (after I've been awake for a couple hours) -- my voice gets all weird and hoarse, and I have to cough it up to resolve the situation. Apparently they think what has been happening is I’m getting constipation farther up in my gi like upper right side and it’s triggering my body to try to move it by creating mucus and diarrhea.
